Spring 2019 Concert – Save the Date!

SAVE THE DATE!

Saturday, May 4th @7:30 PM

Sunday, May 5th @ 4:00 PM

The Ipswich River Community Chorus will be performing their spring concert on May 4th and 5th at the hall in the Aldersgate Church (235 Main St. North Reading).

The concert focuses on the concept of Cubism.  Typically known as a visual concept, the chorus will be approaching it from a musical point of view.  How does that work?  Many songs have different meanings depending on the time period when they were released, or how different artists perform a piece.  For example, adults may hear True Colors and immediately think of Cyndi Lauper’s version.  However, if you ask most kids, they’ll likely think of Princess Poppy from the movie Trolls!

Cubism can also be expressed by the way music brings about a specific feeling.  One piece that will be performed at the concert is A Choral Quilt.  This is a compilation of songs written by Leonard Bernstein that highlight many of his theater pieces which focus on the ideas of home, comfort and family.  As a quilt is used for warmth and comfort, pieces such as “My House” from Peter Pan, “Somewhere” from West Side Story and “Make Our Garden Grow” from Candide often bring the same sensations of comfort.

Join us on this musical journey exploring the concept of Cubism!
