Named for a beloved member of the IRCC community, the Nancy Ferretti Scholarship for Achievement in the Arts is presented to two graduating seniors who intend to study music/performing arts at the college level.
Nancy Ferretti has been a cherished North Reading resident and member of the greater Boston arts community for many decades. She first moved to North Reading in 1948, attended local schools and went on to study music at Boston University. While there, she met her husband, jazz and big band trumpeter Augustino “Chet” Ferretti. They lived for a while in New York City where she and her husband performed and Nancy taught high school music. She also continued her own education, earning a master’s degree from Long Island University.
After returning to North Reading in 1972, Nancy began her illustrious career as a music educator in the Burlington School System, and her involvement with countless area arts organizations and town committees. She served as the first director and later the president of the North Reading Community Chorale. Nancy provided her expertise to the Colonial Chorus, the North Reading High School Masquers musical productions and the local arts council. In 1999 she
served as the concert coordinator for the Music Educators National Conference. Nancy is the recipient of the Burlington School Committee Spotlight on Excellence Award, and was included in the Who’s Who Among American
Teachers publication.
Over the years Nancy has touched many lives as the choir director for the North Reading Union Congregational Church and has served as the entertainment director for the much-loved annual fall Apple Festival. She has also served on non-arts related town committees including on the boards of the North Reading Historical and Antiquarian Society and the Flint Memorial Library.
